MORCA - Monterey Off Road Cycling Association
Sea Otter Classic Volunteer Signup
MORCA will once again be providing volunteers to support the Sea Otter Classic. As well as participating in the kick off cycling event of the year, volunteering for this event helps raise funds for MORCA, drives membership for IMBA and MORCA and helps MORCA gain name recognition in the local community.
Volunteer opportunities include:
The Course Marshal for the dual slalom is positioned along the Dual Slalom course and helps provide for the safety of the riders and spectators by controlling access to the course and communicating to other riders, event and medical personnel when riders are down.
MORCA is asking for each volunteer to commit to at least one day of support for the Sea Otter Dual Slalom.
A typical day will consist of two, two to three hour blocks of time with a lunch break in between. Please see the schedule in the sign up section below for the volunteer hours each day.
Please bear in mind you will need to plan on being at the dual slalom course 30 minutes before the scheduled event start time.
In addition Volunteers need to check in no later than 1 hour prior to their shift at the volunteer sign up tent in the SCRAMP Parking Lot. Directions will be provided. Look for signs!!
There are 7 positions each day for the Dual Slalom. Start times are consistent but end times will vary.
Volunteers will need to print and sign a waiver. Give the completed waiver to Ken Howat who will deliver it to the Volunteer Coordinator.
MORCA has been asked to take responsibility for providing 8 volunteers to lead, sweep and check people in for the first ever Sea Otter Night Ride.
The Night Ride will start Friday at 7:30 pm. Mountain Bike riders will start at turn 5 of the Laguna Seca Raceway and ride out onto the Fort Ord National Monument for one to three laps through Trails 47/48 (Couch Canyon). Volunteers will lead and sweep an A and a B ride.
Road riders will ride laps of the Laguna Seca Raceway. Volunteers will make periodic sweeps of the track to assist riders as needed.
The event will wrap up no later than 10:00 pm.
Volunteers will need to print and sign a waiver. Give the completed waiver to Darius Rike who will deliver it to the Volunteer Coordinator.
Booth volunteers will be working at the IMBA Booth in the main festival area or at the MORCA/Club tent in the Club Zone. We will be coordinating volunteers for MORCA and other IMBA chapters volunteering at the Sea Otter.
There should be one MORCA member plus one member of another chapter at the IMBA booth each shift.
Your primary role as a volunteer will be to share what we do as a local organization and what IMBA does internationally and sign up members for IMBA, MORCA or other chapter as appropriate.
Note: There will be a meeting for MORCA booth volunteers approximately one week ahead of the event. Look for more information to follow and contact Joel Trice of MORCA if you have any questions.
All volunteers will get one 4 day event pass and a T-shirt.
Dual Slalom volunteers will get a bag lunch each day they work.
Night Ride volunteers will get a free Race/Ride registration to a Sea Otter event of their choice (good 2014 or 2015).
Thank you for taking the time to volunteer for this prestigious event.
Don't forget to download, print and sign your waiver.
